Daytime sailings of the Manxman have resumed but journeys have been delayed

Daytime ferry sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire have resumed following cancellations on Tuesday due to strong winds over the Irish Sea.

However, the 08:45 BST crossing from Douglas to Heysham was delayed by 45 minutes.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company warned that would have a knock-on effect subsequent sailings, including the 19:45 crossing to Lancashire, which was pushed to 21:00, and its return.

It followed the cancellation of Tuesday's daytime journeys and a delayed departure of the evening trip to allow time for the conditions in the Irish Sea to settle down.

Afternoon and evening sailings of the fast craft Manannan between the island and Liverpool have been unaffected by the conditions.

In a post on its website, the government-owned ferry firm said wind conditions in Heysham could be "very different" to those in Liverpool.

"Also due to the topography of the land and buildings around the ports, they are affected by winds of a different direction," it added.
