A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was hit by a car and died.

The victim, in his 40s, was struck by a Suzuki Swift on Fylde Road in Preston just after 20:30 GMT on Saturday, Lancashire Police said.

The car did not stop at the scene where the man was pronounced dead, the force added.

The arrested man, 24, from Preston, is being questioned in police custody.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

"Our thoughts remain with the man's family at this distressing time and they are being supported by specially trained officers," a police spokesman said.
