Man charged over violent disorder in Harehills

A man has been charged with arson and violent disorder in connection with the disturbance in the Harehills area of Leeds earlier this year.

Trouble flared when hundreds of people gathered on the streets for several hours on 18 an 19 July, with a police car flipped over, a bus set alight and officers pelted with missiles.

Alfie Robinson, 24, of Cowper Street, Leeds, is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates鈥 Court on Monday charged with violent disorder and arson with intent or recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

A total of 43 people have now been arrested over the disorder, with four people sentenced to date, West Yorkshire Police said.

The force said it was continuing to carry out investigations into the disorder, which 鈥渃aused significant distress to residents in the Harehills area鈥.

Officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team have been using facial recognition and other technology to identify all those involved, a spokesperson said.
