Tanker fire closes A40 as drivers told to avoid area
- Published
The A40 westbound in Herefordshire was closed following a tanker fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
National Highways said the incident happened between the B4164 (Whitchurch) and the A466 (Monmouth).
The carriageway reopened shortly before 13:40 BST, according to National Highways which originally estimated the closure to last for most of the day to allow for the "complex recovery of the vehicle".
West Mercia Police attended the scene, with motorists advised to avoid the area.
