A man who was caught driving at 100mph (160km/h) with class A drugs in his car has been given a suspended sentence.

Levi Boister, 27, was stopped near Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, on 21 August and arrested after a drugs wipe showed he was positive for cannabis.

He was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work.

Police said the courts gave him chance to "step away from this activity and make a change".

'Make a change'

Boister, of no fixed address, was pulled over on the A141 between Chatteris and Wimblington at 22:00 BST.

A search uncovered more than £1,455 in cash, and he claimed it was for a friend’s present, police said.

Two mobile phones and a black bag containing cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy) and cannabis were also seized.

The phones revealed conversations about drug dealing and he admitted possession with intent to supply drugs.

Officers said they searched his former home in Whittlesey and found a shotgun in his bedroom, £1,510 in cash, drugs and drugs paraphernalia.

During sentencing at Peterborough Crown Court, Boister was also ordered to forfeit the £2,965 in cash that was seized.

Det Con Kevin Poole said: "This was a great stop by our Road Policing Unit who were in the right place at the right time, and ended up uncovering a significant amount of drugs which have now been taken off the streets.

"Boister has been given a chance by the courts to step away from this activity and make a change, should he make the choice to enter back into this criminality, he risks further charges and also having his suspended sentence activated and being sent to prison."
