Barnsley Council says Vicarage Lane can get heavily congested at pick-up and drop-off times

  • Published

Parking outside two primary schools could be banned at pick-up and drop-off times as part of a trial aimed at curbing congestion.

Barnsley Council said parking had become an "increased problem" on Vicarage Lane in Royston, which聽serves聽Parkside Primary Academy and Royston St John Baptist Primary School.

The council has proposed a six-month trial preventing stopping people parking there between 08:00 and 09:20 and again from 14:30 to 17:00 on weekdays, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The proposal is due to be discussed by cabinet members on 14 August.

If the trial is a success after six months the restrictions could become permanent, the council said.

A report to the council states the restrictions would "improve overall road safety for children and parents".
