Pedestrian dies and drivers held after two-car crash

A man has died and two people have been arrested after a crash involving two cars and a pedestrian in north Dorset.

It happened on the A350 at Compton Abbas, near Shaftesbury, at about 19:45 BST on Thursday.

The pedestrian, a man in his 60s from Warminster, Wiltshire, died at the scene.

A 19-year-old man from Shaftesbury and a man aged in his 20s from Mere in Wiltshire have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

The crash involved a silver Audi TT Quattro and a grey BMW 218i.

Emergency services attended but the man died at the scene.

His family has been informed.

A passenger from the Audi – a man in his 20s – was taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be serious.

Road closures remained in place on Friday morning while investigators examined the scene.

Sgt Mike Burt of the Roads Policing Team said: “Our thoughts are with the family and the loved ones of the man who very sadly died in this collision.

“I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to please make contact with us."
