Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot and another stabbed.

The gunshot victim was admitted to Royal Oldham Hospital at about 20:30 BST on Wednesday with injuries to his arms, Greater Manchester Police said.

Police checks of CCTV led them to Busk Road, also in the town, where they found a second man with stab wounds.

Two men, aged 22 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and were also being treated in hospital.

'Extra patrols'

Det Inspector Alex Wilkinson, from the force's major incident team, said there would be increased patrols in the area.

But he said there was nothing to suggest a wider threat to the public.

He said: "Our enquiries are in their initial stages at the moment, and we are working extremely hard to ascertain the facts and build a thorough timeline of events that led up to the disturbance.

"Anyone with details that may help us in our investigation are asked to get in touch, as we know there could be a number of potential witnesses to this incident."
