A dog walker was pulled to safety after becoming "stuck in a culvert in fast-flowing water" following heavy rain.
The man had been walking near Water Lane in Leeds, at about 18:25 BST on Tuesday, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.
Fire crews responded and requested a specialist water rescue team. Two firefighters briefly entered the water, but "removed themselves downstream" uninjured, the fire service said.
The man was pulled to safety by firefighters with the help of the ambulance service and checked over by paramedics.
