A member of the public was arrested and held for two-and-a-half hours after a police officer's practical joke went wrong, a force will allege.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary will hold a misconduct hearing from Monday because it says PC Benjamin Magee phoned a colleague pretending to be a member of the public.
It added that member of the public was arrested on suspicion of sending malicious communications, taken into custody and had their mobile phone seized in December 2022.
A panel will decide if PC Magee's alleged conduct was gross misconduct and, if so, if it was serious enough to mean he should be sacked.
The member of the public, who has not been named by the force, was released after it was established they had not made the phone call.
The at the force's headquarters in Eastleigh until Wednesday.
