A man and woman have been charged after two police officers were reportedly bitten by an XL bully.

The officers were carrying out inquiries at an address in Lewis Close, Ibstock, on 26 October last year, Leicestershire Police said.

A 25-year-old woman was charged with being in charge of an XL bully dog. She and the other suspect, a man aged 32, were both charged with possession or custody of a dog, namely a female dog of the pit-bull-type, under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The pair, of Lewis Close, Ibstock, denied the charges at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Police said one officer sustained serious bite injuries to his upper leg while the second officer sustained a small laceration to his finger.

A second dog, which the force said was a pit bull breed, was also found at the address.

The man and woman are due appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court for trial on 17 September.
