Man bailed over Ards mosque attack

A man arrested in connection with an attack on a mosque in Newtownards in the early hours of Saturday morning has been released on bail to allow for further inquiries.

A petrol bomb was thrown at the building on Greenwell Street, while graffiti was daubed on the wall, during the incident just before 01:00 BST.

On Sunday, police said a 42-year-old man was detained after two properties were searched in the town.

Officers said he was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson, possessing a petrol bomb and attempted intimidation.

The founder of the Islamic centre, Abdul Rob, told ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ News NI the attack had left his community nervous but that they would not leave the area.
