A council has agreed to buy land in a Nottinghamshire town centre as part of a major regeneration scheme.
Ashfield District Council is leading the 拢14m North Kirkby Gateway scheme, which aims to create new homes and commercial units in the Pond Hole area of Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Documents published by the council have shown the authority has decided to buy land and buildings in the Ellis Street area though it has not revealed the exact location and how much it will pay.
The council said the land was critical to the development of the scheme.
A council report said: "The North Kirkby Gateway project focusses upon the redevelopment of the Pond Hole site as well as the adjoining development opportunity sites on Pond Street and Ellis Street, including the council鈥檚 car park.
"The development seeks to create a gateway building forming an active Western boundary to the Kirkby Plaza delivering new town centre living accommodation and some commercial units."
The council's executive director of place John Bennett said the scheme was being funded from the council's 拢62.6m Town Deal.
He said: "The North Kirkby Gateway project will improve the attractiveness and perceptions of the area, whilst creating more accommodation in the town centre, leading to greater local spending and sustainability for local businesses.
"The project will also open up wider development opportunities and further long-term investment."
