A daughter has appeared in court accused of trying to murder her mother by smothering her while the elderly woman was in hospital.
Nursing staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary had to restrain Susan Hardwick after she was found pressing pillows against the face of Joan Hardwick on 24 July, prosecutors alleged.
The 88-year-old was receiving end-of-life care at the hospital following a stroke, Sheffield Crown Court heard.
No plea was entered during the hearing on 22 August and a provisional trial date of June 2025 was set.
Nurses were alerted to a disturbance in Mrs Hardwick's room and she also received a cut to the back of her neck during the altercation, the court was told.
Miss Hardwick, 64, of Beech Road, Armthorpe, Doncaster, was charged with attempted murder and was remanded into custody.
Appearing via video link from prison, she was told by the Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, that she would likely face trial next year.
