May Fairs return to continue 900 year tradition

The Leominster and Hereford May Fairs will return this year with rides, side shows, food stalls and ancient ceremonies all part of the traditional festival.
It is an event that dates back more than 900 years, according to Herefordshire Council.
Showmen and women from across the country will make their way to Herefordshire for the fairs as thousands are expected to attend.
Leominster May Fair will take place on 2 May to 4 May, while the Hereford May Fair will take place on 7 May to 9 May.
To ensure the smooth running of the festivals, some roads will be closed.
In Leominster, Corn Street, Corn Square, Victoria Street and Broad Street will be closed from 18:00 BST on 1 May until 08:00 on 5 May.
The following roads will also closed to traffic from 17:00 on 6 May until 07:00 on 10 May in Hereford:
- Broad Street from its junction with West Street/East Street to its junction with King Street
- King Street from its junction with Broad Street to its junction with St Nicholas Street/Bridge Street
- Bridge Street from its junction with St Nicholas Street to its junction with Gwynne Street
- St Owen Street From its junction with St Peters Square to its junction with St Ethelbert Street
- St Nicholas Street from its junction with Bridge Street/King Street to its junction with Berrington Street
- High Town
- Commercial Street
- St Peters Street
Herefordshire Council has urged drivers to be patient and considerate on the roads.
