A former police officer who bombarded a woman with unwanted calls and messages has been fined.

Joe Daniel, 34, continued to contact the victim, with whom he had been in a relationship, even after bail conditions banned him from doing so following a police investigation.

Daniel, of St James Mews in Leeds, was fined 拢800 and issued with a restraining order at Hull Magistrates Court on Wednesday, having pleaded guilty to stalking earlier this year.

He was also told to pay a victim surcharge and prosecution costs totalling 拢405.

Daniel, a former North Yorkshire Police officer based in Scarborough, was suspended from duty in November 2023 and was dismissed from the force following a misconduct hearing earlier this month.

North Yorkshire's deputy chief constable Scott Bisset said: "We welcome the conviction at court, which reflects our determination to root out those officers who have no place in North Yorkshire Police.

"The communities of York and North Yorkshire expect the highest levels of integrity and professional standards of behaviour from our officers and staff - Daniel's actions fell far short of that and we have taken swift action to ensure he faces the consequences."
