There has been a rise in burglaries in Bradford targeting Asian gold, according to police.

In the last four months there have been 28 burglaries where Asian gold has been stolen across the city.

Whereas between January and May, West Yorkshire Police recorded just eight offences with no specific pattern regarding Asian gold burglaries.

Two boys, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Gold from different areas differs in purity and weight and Asian gold is considered to have a particularly high purity.

Det Insp Dennise Bell said the suspects had been riding around Bradford on e-bikes while targeting properties.

She said: "Officers would like to appeal to anyone who has seen anything suspicious to come forward with information.

"We would also like to see any doorbell footage that may have captured these bikes riding past your property.

"It appears that the suspects are snapping the locks on the door.

"We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents about making sure that they have an up-to-date anti-snap lock on all doors.

"Also ensure that windows and doors are secured, and valuables are locked away in a safe place.

"Our investigation into the residential burglaries remain ongoing."
