A 68-year-old man has died in an incident at a caravan park near Gatwick Airport, police said.

Sussex Police said the man from Surrey died following an incident which happened shortly after 14:00 BST on Friday.

The force said the cause of the incident, at the Gatwick Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite in Charlwood Road, Crawley, was under investigation and would be a matter for the coroner.

A Caravan and Motorhome Club spokesperson said: "The club is aware of the tragic incident that took place at Gatwick club campsite and is supporting all those involved."

They said they were unable to make any further comment because the matter was being handled by authorities.

"Our thoughts and support are with all those affected," they added.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers at this time."
