A beach in Portrush is safe for bathing, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has confirmed following tests.

The local council confirmed the move on Friday afternoon, after water samples taken at the beach were found to be "within acceptable limits for bathing waters".

On Thursday, people were advised not to go into the water at Portrush's East Strand.

The Council said at the time that it had taken the "precautionary measure" after receiving a report that slurry had been washed onto the strand on Wednesday night.

Signs posted along the promenade alerting the public have now been removed.

"East Strand Beach, Portrush, is safe for bathing following confirmation from Daera [Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs] that the water sample results are within acceptable limits for bathing waters," a spokesperson for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said on Friday.
