A man has been arrested in connection with an incident in which two children were bitten by a dog on Eastbourne seafront.

Sussex Police said the suspect is believed to be the owner of a dog - thought to be a rottweiler - which was "dangerously out of control, causing injury" on 27 May.

The 64-year-old local man was arrested on 4 September and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Ch Insp Di Lewis: "This is an ongoing investigation, so we ask people not to speculate further on social media."

The incident happened at about 10:20BST on a bank holiday Monday near the Holywell caf茅.

The police, which launched a public appeal for information, said the young children involved needed hospital treatment.

Ch Insp Lewis said: "I would like to thank the public for their support for our investigation and for coming forward."
