Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a crash between a car and a lorry on Friday morning.

The crash happened on the A483 between Mile End, Oswestry, and Welshpool.

The driver of the car, a 59 year-old man, died at the scene, and a seven year-old girl who was a passenger was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries.

A second man, the driver of the lorry, was treated for minor injuries and discharged from the scene.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident," said PC Ben Ward.

The force said the crash was between a grey Audi S3 saloon, which was travelling in the direction of Welshpool and a blue Volvo HGV, which was travelling towards Mile End.

The road remains closed, and will be for "a number of hours."
