A man has died in hospital days after being seriously injured in an attack in a seaside town.
Anthony Littlewood, 39, was found injured on Hart Lane in Hartlepool on 8 June, Cleveland Police said.
He was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he has since died.
Two men, both 24, who were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The force said officers were called to Hart Lane at about 18:30 BST and discovered Mr Littlewood, who was from Hartlepool.
A spokeswoman said: "Anthony’s family have asked that their privacy is respected during this extremely difficult time and our thoughts remain with his family and friends."
