A man has appeared in court accused of taking items others could use as weapons to the scene of violent disorder in Rotherham at the weekend.

Prosecutors allege Jake Turton drove a Ford Ranger pick-up truck to the Holiday Inn Express, in Manvers, carrying wood and other debris.

Mr Turton, 38, of Darfield, Barnsley, denied violent disorder, taking a vehicle without consent and having no insurance at Sheffield Magistrates' Court earlier.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 20 August.

District Judge James Gould was told that the whole incident was filmed by a police helicopter.
