A 12-year-old boy was injured by debris after a suspected stolen motorbike crashed in a busy town centre.
It happened in Front Street, Chester-le-Street, at about 10:30 BST on Tuesday, which saw the road closed for several hours.
The boy needed medical treatment after being struck by debris following the crash, Durham Police said.
The rider of the motorbike, who had briefly been pursued by a police officer also riding a motorbike, suffered serious leg injuries and was later arrested.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.
The road and nearby footpaths have since reopened, and an investigation is under way.
