A community hub in Cornwall has received funding of more than 拢120,000 to construct a new building.

The St Tudy Playing Field Trust, in Bodmin, has been awarded 拢120,648 from the government's Levelling Up Fund.

Its trustees had also secured a grant from the Cornwall Council鈥檚 community infrastructure levy fund of 拢100,000 to go towards the new hub, project leaders said.

Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for economy, said the hub would "bring together the generations to enjoy facilities that will promote education, leisure, sport and health for the benefit of all".

'Enhance village facilities'

The building, which will cost 拢450,000, will be built on the St Tudy playing fields, project leaders said.

It would offer a variety of sports and leisure, expand St Tudy pre-school's facilities and provide a community room for St Tudy Primary School for children to eat their lunches in, they added.

They also said it would have purpose-built pre-school classrooms and a staff room with kitchen, toilet and changing facilities.

Karen Whalley, who led the bid, said: "It will enhance facilities in the village, providing long-term security and a permanent base to a number of organisations."

Money has also been raised through fundraising events, a significant donation from a local landowner including additional land and other donations and funding.

Work has started on the building, and it was hoped to be open by spring 2025, project leaders said.
