Charges have been brought against three men in Derbyshire following recent national disorder.

Police said a 50-year-old man, from Chesterfield, was charged with using insulting or abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress following an incident near a hotel in the town on Wednesday afternoon.

A 64-year-old man, also from Chesterfield, has been charged with two assault offences, assault of an emergency worker and three racially aggravated public order offences following an alleged assault in West Bars on Wednesday evening.

And a 25-year-old man, from Derby, has been charged with a false communications offence in relation to information given out during a live TikTok stream on Wednesday.

'Robust response'

All three men are due to appear before magistrates on Friday.

The charges follow disorder in towns and cities around the country following the killings of three young girls in Southport on 29 July.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "Whilst we have not seen any widespread disorder in Derbyshire, we have made a number of arrests and charges for some isolated incidents.

"We will continue to monitor the information about any events planned in the county, review our policing plans in line with any new information and be robust in our response."
