A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer who was stabbed at a railway station.

An officer was attacked on Saturday evening at Preston railway station in Lancashire, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 53-year-old man from Preston has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article and is due to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court later.

The attack led to partial closures of the station as people were leaving the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 2 in the Park music festival.

More than 70,000 people attended the three-day festival at the city's Moor Park, which included performances by Sting, Sugababes and Manic Street Preachers.
