Former pub could be converted into terraced homes

A former pub in a Bradford village could be set to be converted into housing.

The Fleece, on Clayton Lane, Clayton, has been shut since 2023, with the first floor apartment within the venue also vacant.

Under proposals submitted to Bradford Council by a developer, the property would become three separate terraced homes, each of which would have three bedrooms.

In its application, planning consultants Johnson Mowat said the plans would benefit the local community.

The company said there had been no offers for the property from anyone willing to continue running it as a pub.

Its letter, submitted as part of the application, said The Fleece had recently "changed ownership numerous times" and had repeatedly failed to "sustain itself as a business".

It added that while retaining it as a public house would be "desirable", the concept was "unviable", with several other pubs nearby.

The application said that the property was at risk of "falling into disrepair".

It added: "Converting it into residential units not only meets the demand for housing but also ensures the preservation of the building's integrity."

A decision on the proposal is expected to be made later this year.
