Devon County Council has launched a consultation on proposals for the roll-out of new family hub centres.

The council said it has set out the proposal to use its former children's centre buildings in a new network of family hubs.

The council said the proposed model would see 10 main centres across the county if they went ahead.

Facilities would include targeted and universal support to all families with children aged up to 19, and for people aged up to 25 with special educational needs or disabilities.

The council said the move was a national one, with the government announcing the transition in 2021.

On its website, the council said it was proposing to provide a combination of family hub centres in each district council area, and outreach hubs in local communities.

Council cabinet member with responsibility for children's services Andrew Leadbetter said he was "very excited" about the proposals.

He said the transition to family hubs would take place across a year.

The consultation is due to run until 3 July.
