City centre road becomes one-way
A major road in Leeds city centre has become a one-way street.
Sovereign Street is now shut to traffic moving westbound into the city centre, though cars can still use the eastbound carriageway towards Swinegate.
Leeds City Council said works on the road began on Thursday to create a two-way cycle track on the westbound carriageway.
An upgraded traffic light system will also be installed at Sovereign Street's junction with Neville Street.
Councillor Helen Hayden, portfolio holder for sustainable development, said the scheme was a "positive step forward" towards making Leeds "better-connected".
She said: "As with all our works in the city centre, we aim to keep disruption to a minimum and would always encourage motorists in particular to plan their journeys in advance to avoid being affected by the road closure."
