Drugs with a value of about 拢450,000 have been seized during a week of action against county lines dealing, reports West Mercia Police.

Forty-nine people were arrested as part of the operation across Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and 27 people suspected of being exploited by criminals were safeguarded.

The operation also saw 44 phones, 31 weapons, three vehicles and more than 拢3,400 in cash seized.

Two drug-dealing lines were closed as a direct result of the action, said the force.

'Cuckooing'

County lines dealers often exploit children and young people, recruiting them to distribute drugs on their behalf.

The force visited schools, community groups and sports clubs to warn people of the signs that someone may be involved in such networks.

Vulnerable adults, often drug users, can also have their homes taken over by dealers, which is known as "cuckooing".

During the week-long operation, 100 visits to suspected sites were carried out.

鈥淐ounty lines will never have a place in the counties covered by West Mercia Police," said Det Ch Insp Ian Wall.

"Anyone thinking about becoming involved in drug dealing, let these results be a stark warning. We will find you and bring you to justice.鈥
