An estimated 拢110,000 is to be spent on urgent maintenance to a former police station in Renfrewshire.

The B-listed building in Renfrew's Inchinnan Road has been vacant for a decade.

A recent inspection found a blocked drainage system which was causing stagnant water on the roof - and serious dry and wet rot in the interior walls.

The council said the money for the repairs would be sourced from the Renfrew Common Good Fund.

鈥淚t is recommended that these issues are rectified immediately to ensure the long-term integrity and potential future re-use of the building鈥 said a report to the recent finance, resources and customer services policy board.

SNP councillor for Renfrew North and Braehead, John Shaw, said: 鈥淭hese are some very important works to keep the police station in one piece until we get some funding together to really do it up.鈥

Last year, an unsuccessful 拢20m proposal by the council to the Levelling Up Fund included a bid to transform the police station and the neighbouring swimming baths into a thriving community hub.

The two-storey former police building dates back to 1910, and was leased by the police until June 2012, before they moved to new premises on Station Road.
