A man from Birmingham has been arrested after a car was stolen at knifepoint in Stafford.

Police were called at about 18:35 GMT on Sunday after a Skoda Octavia was robbed.

It was later found ditched at Hopwood Services in Alvechurch, on the M42, by the Central Motorway Police Group.

Officers said the car collided with another vehicle, but nobody was hurt in the crash.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, failing to stop and dangerous driving, according to Staffordshire Police.

He remained in custody for questioning on Monday, they added.

A spokesperson said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e working hard to make Staffordshire a hostile place for thieves to offend.

鈥淲e have arrested more than 120 suspected vehicle thieves and charged more than 50 of them since we launched a crackdown in 2022.鈥
