A driver has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a road collision left a man with potentially life-threatening injuries.

West Yorkshire Police said a 43-year-old man, who was driving a Land Rover Discovery, was arrested and a 28-year-old man, with significant leg injuries, was taken to hospital.

The force said they were called to the incident near Wetherby Racecourse at 22:28 BST on Friday.

Police believe the incident is linked to the theft of a boat from an address in Wetherby that occurred shortly before the crash.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft and remains in custody.

Police said a scene was in place on York Road as detectives carried out inquiries.
