Man who attacked victim with hockey stick jailed

A man who carried out a "horrific" attack on his victim with a hockey stick and left him in critical condition has been jailed.
Andrew McMinn, 32, had cycled to Abbey Road, Dunscroft, Doncaster, with the stick in his hand on 17 July.
In broad daylight, he struck the victim seven times across his head, chest and torso, causing life-threatening injuries before fleeing the scene.
McMinn, of York Road, Dunscroft, was jailed for eight years at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place at an earlier hearing.
Det Con Katie McCreadie said footage showing the defendant's neck and chest tattoos meant police had been able to identify him and arrest him following the incident.
"The amount of footage of him from the scene to the address, along with the comparison of his tattoos, left him with no choice but to plead guilty," she said.
"McMinn committed this horrific attack on a residential street in broad daylight.
"It was an unprovoked assault on a defenceless victim in view of members of the public and I am glad McMinn has now been brought to justice."
She hoped the victim could now move on from the "distressing ordeal" and he felt justice had been served.
