Fire at County Down commercial yard treated as arson

A fire at a commercial yard in County Down is being treated as arson, police have said.

Firefighters worked through the night at Ballybeen Road in Moneyreagh after the incident was reported just after 23:00 BST on Friday.

At one stage, up to 50 personnel and nine appliances were involved.

Police said that stables, a static caravan and two unused outbuildings were extensively damaged.

Fire crews left the scene just after 06:00 BST on Saturday.

鈥淭hankfully, no persons or animals were inside the buildings," PSNI Insp Burke said.

"We are treating this attack as arson.

鈥淥ur enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist with our investigation, particularly anyone with CCTV, dashcam or other relevant footage, to contact us on 101."
