Runner's leg broken in country park hit and run

A runner suffered a broken arm and leg after he was hit by a motorbike while jogging in a country park.

Northumbria Police are investigating the suspected hit and run which took place on 10 March on Derwent Walk in Gateshead.

At about 10:50 GMT two runners were approached by two men riding an orange motorcycle.

The motorbike then crashed into the 56-year-old victim while he was running, leaving him with broken bones.

Northumbria Police said that after the crash the suspects left the scene on foot and left the motorbike behind.

The victim remains in hospital for treatment but is in a stable condition.

The suspected hit and run took place on Derwent Walk, in the Lockhaugh Road area of Blaydon. Motor vehicles are not allowed in the park.

Northumbria Police has launched an appeal for information.
