City roads to close ahead of duke's wedding

Motorists have been advised to avoid travelling into Chester city centre by car on Friday ahead of the Duke of Westminster's wedding.

Hugh Grosvenor, the seventh Duke of Westminster, is to marry Olivia Henson at Chester Cathedral.

In a , Cheshire West and Chester Council asked people to consider using public transport, walking or cycling if possible.

"The city centre will be busier than usual with some access restrictions," the council said.

As part of the city's preparations some roads will be closed from Wednesday.

In the city centre Northgate Street, St Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street, and St John Street are affected.

Further roads will be closed for periods of time on Friday, with full details available on the .

Last week it was revealed the annual Summer Flowers project in the city would be funded by the couple.

This year 100,000 flowers have been planted in displays across the city as part of the couple's wedding celebrations.

Luka Morrell, business engagement manager for Chester BID, said the annual project represented 鈥渁 heartfelt thank you to our communities, enhancing our beautiful city as we head into the summer months鈥.

She said Chester BID was "immensely grateful for the support from the duke and Olivia in bringing our project to life this year".
