A wellbeing centre proposed for a village in Doncaster has been refused after concerns were raised by several neighbours.

Plans had been drawn up to demolish a bungalow in Cantley and replace it with the facility and a car park.

The site, on Cantley Lane, would have included features such as聽a swimming pool, hot and cold dip pools, a sauna, massage treatment rooms and a hairdresser.

The application was refused by City of Doncaster Council due to concerns about the potential harm to the village.

'Out of character'

Five neighbouring residents had objected to the plans, raising concerns about loss of privacy, increased traffic, noise disruption and the design being out of character with the surroundings.

A similar application by the developer was refused in June 2023 due to the scale of the planned building causing loss of trees and the design being out of character, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Cantley Lane is part of a conservation area, meaning that any new developments must match its character as a 鈥渞esidential suburb of early 20th Century origin.鈥

The new proposal was reduced in size, however officers maintained their concerns over the design.
