A man has been arrested following reports to police of a car with sirens and flashing lights attempting to pull over members of the public.

Staffordshire Police officers were called to the Tunstall area of Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday at 22:30 BST.

The force said they located and stopped a black BMW on Broomhill street and arrested a man on suspicion of impersonating a police officer, drink-driving, driving without insurance and obtaining a driving licence while disqualified.

The 40-year-old, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "There were initial reports of the car pulling people over, however, once witnesses were spoken to, there was no evidence of this.

"No-one came forward to say they had been pulled over."
