A former Bradford city centre bank building is to be repurposed as flats and a shop.

The Royal Bank of Scotland closed its branch on Bank Street in March 2022, with the property sold at auction for 拢315,000 in 2023.

A planning application to convert the upper floors into nine flats and the ground floor into retail space has now been approved by the council.

The grade II listed property was designed by architects Lockwood and Mawson, who were behind many of the city centre鈥檚 grand Victorian buildings, including City Hall.

The bank building sits between a Greggs and a Cash Generators pawnbroking store.

Explaining their decision, council planners said said: 鈥淭he proposal would retain existing commercial land use on the ground floor, and would reuse the disused upper floors under residential use.

"This arrangement is deemed to contribute to character of this area and wider regenerative aims.鈥
