Nature's Top 40
Nature’s Top 40 counts down to the UK’s number one wildlife spectacle. Wildlife experts ranked suggestions from the public to compile the UK’s Top 40.
Into the wild
- Like my fellow presenters on Nature’s Top 40, I'm passionate about wildlife and love nothing better than the sight of nature’s amazing spectacles. Throughout the series I'll share with you some of my passion for British animals, birds and plants.
- My interest in wildlife started at an early age and has continued throughout my working life.
- I was born and bred in mid Wales where there is some remarkable wildlife and a rich diversity of habitats. I guess that’s what fuelled my interest in nature and birds, in particular.Â
- As a young man I studied for a degree in ecology in London before returning to Wales to work for the RSPB. For 14 years, I worked as a Species Officer, monitoring rare species and investigating offences against wild birds.
- In 1998, I decided on a career change, leaving the RSPB to work in the media – and ever since I've been broadcasting in both English and Welsh for TV and radio.
Wild life
- As well as my keen interest in wildlife and conservation, I'm a fanatical rugby supporter - Wales, of course! I still get involved in the odd veterans' game, and also play soccer and recently took up paragliding and diving.Â
- When not working, I can be found wandering around the Welsh hills, monitoring breeding Honey Buzzards, Red Kites and Hen Harriers. Â
- In my spare time I can be found relaxing at home with my wife, Ceri, two sons, Dewi and Tomos, and two dogs.
- I hope that you’ll enjoy watching Nature’s Top 40 as much as I enjoyed making it.
Some of the natural spectacles can be found in my own back yard in Wales – but others are located a little further from home.
This gave me a great sense of discovering new sights and sounds too!
- But if I had to admit it, my favourite spectacles in the TV series are the birds of prey and the mountain goats, both of which I have spent a lot of time watching on his Welsh travels.
- I look forward to sharing some of my passion for British nature with you during the Nature’s Top 40 series.
