Lee Valley is the place to see some of the country's most elusive and impressive wildlife.

The Lee Valley Regional Park was created in 1967 when work started on turning 10,000 acres of derelict land into a haven for recreation and wildlife.

Key attractions:Bird watching - many different hides.

Circular walks - Waterbirds Walk (year round), Orchid Discovery Trail (summer), Dragonfly Walk (summer), Grasshopper Walk (summer), Water Lily Walk (summer).
Essential kit:Flask and sandwiches! Binoculars for bird watching.
Warm clothing.
Nature activities:

Nature watching, bird spotting. Various events throughout year. You can't see everything in a day. Look for the park's information service on boards and check out its website.

Wildlife fair in May. Watch the Bittern from the Bittern Watchpoint hide. If there are no Bitterns there, read the information board that gives details of recent sightings elsewhere in the park.

Access:Disabled access guide available. Lots of reasonably flat walks on gravel or tarmac.
Getting there:Located just outside the M25 near Waltham Abbey. The park extends from Ware to East India Dock Basin, stretching for 26 miles on both sides of the River Lee.

Nearest rail station - Cheshunt station. Two minute walk - located next to park entrance.
Parking: Several car parks around the park.
Opening times:

Information desk open 10am - 4.00pm daily.

Lee Valley is open all year - and there's plenty to see and do in its five nature reserves. Park Ranger service available daily except Christmas Day.

Charges:Free entry.
