Ashridge Estate is set in over 5,000 acres of open countryside and stretches along the ridge of the Chilterns and through the 成人快手 Counties of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

The estate has a wide variety of habitats from woodland and open countryside to chalk downland.

Deer rutting in autumn.

The main focal point of the estate is the Monument to the Duke of Bridgewater, erected in 1832 from which there are good views. There are also excellent views from Ivinghoe Beacon.

Essential kit:Walking shoes. Binoculars. Waterproof clothing if wet.
Nature watching:

The best time of year to visit is early autumn.

There are a number of fungi forays and organised deer walks throughout the season. Book well in advance.

Extensive network of footpaths. Self-guided walks - info available from the shop. Workshops and activity days.

Autumn tree displays. Deer watching. Fungi forays.
Woodland birds - Woodpeckers, Nuthatch and
Woodcock. Buzzards and Red Kites.

The Edible Dormouse, with its grey fur and bushy tail, is also found in deciduous woodland on the estate. These small mammals nest in tree holes and sometimes in bird boxes during daylight hours.

Spring - Bluebells.

Summer - butterflies and flowers. Warm, dark evenings - Gloworms.

Access:

Disabled access: Adapted WC. The grounds are partly accessible - obtain map of accessible route from visitor centre.

There are four miles of surfaced routes suitable for wheelchairs. PMVs available - pre-booking essential.

Induction loop in the shop and restaurant. Portable induction loop can be obtained for walks and talks.

Getting there:

Located just off B4506 between Berkhamsted and Northchurch, and Ringshall and Dagnall.


Bus: Arriva 30/31 to Monument. Chiltern Rambler 327 from Tring to Monument and Beacon (Suns between May-Sept only).

Nearest rail stations: Tring (1戮miles); Cheddington (3陆miles).

Free parking.

Opening times:

Estate open year round with open access.

Visitor centre open 12-5pm between 17 March聳16 December 2007. Monument open 12-5pm Saturday and Sunday up to 28 October 2007.

Charges:

Admission prices: Monument: 拢1.40, child 70p. Countryside: free. Donations welcome.
