成人快手 Radio 3
Programme highlights for Christmas 2018 on 成人快手 Radio 3.
Sound Walk: Winter Wanderer
TX details: Monday 24 December, 4.30pm-7.30pm
As part the Into The Forest season on Radio 3 this December, the station presents its next Slow Radio walk. For three hours this Christmas Eve, listeners will have the chance to walk with Horatio Clare (pictured above) from the comfort of their armchairs, as he revels in the magic and mystery of walking deep in the forest. Horatio will begin his walk in the village of Holzbronn in the Black Forest, West of Stuttgart, but will wander freely once he enters the forest.
This Slow Radio walk will be inspired by the idea of ‘the wanderer’, a widely celebrated figure in 19th century Romantic art, music and literature. Through a widespread concept across Europe, this figure was particularly prevalent in Germany and Austria, for example in the writings of Goethe and in the songs of Schubert, Schumann and Mahler. As Horatio wanders the woods, listeners will hear his acute observation of the natural environment in real time as her explores the signs, sounds and sensations around him.
Horatio will also share the musings of great writers who were influenced by and celebrated wandering in nature, including American transcendentalist philosopher Henry David Thoreau, romantic English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Schubert’s great song-cycle Die Winterreise.
Horatio Clare says: “The chance to walk and talk to Radio 3 listeners through the glades and moods of the ancient European forest at Christmas time would delight any writer. Having previously done two sound walks - in the footsteps of Bach and along the Welsh border - I am trebly honoured. Who knows what we will find and feel?"
Part of Into The Forest, a year-long theme for Radio 3 exploring the enduring and magical influence of this natural landscape on music and the arts.

Hear And Now - Matthew Kaner’s Hansel And Gretel

This Hansel And Gretel (A Nightmare In Eight Scenes) is a new operatic imagining of the fairy tale about the children who get lost in the forest, with words by poet Simon Armitage and music by composer Matthew Kaner.
This production was inspired by the Hansel and Gretel creations of artist Clive Hicks-Jenkins, which first appeared in a picture book, and subsequently as a Toy Theatre for Benjamin Pollock’s Toy Shop. It was a natural development to bring these ideas to the stage, with wooden puppets acting as the children.
This recording for radio will bring audiences the purely auditory experience of the piece, with Armitage’s narration spoken by Adey Grummet, and Kaner’s musical ensemble featuring an unusual dark-hued collective of viola, cello, cor anglais, bass clarinet and horn and the childhood sounds of toy pianos.

This programme explores how Hugo, once a big part of the political and literary establishment in Paris, fell foul to the authorities during the revolution, forcing him to flee in disguise.
