
EastEnders is going live on 20 February as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations which will include the result of a first-of-its kind interactive twist which is giving the viewers the power to decide the outcome of Denise Fox’s love story.
To officially mark 40 years since EastEnders first aired on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One, the whole week of episodes will take place over one day, with a special hour-long episode transmitting on Wednesday 19 February, followed by a full live episode on Thursday 20 February which is set to change Walford, and the lives of those who live in it forever.
Following it’s hour long episode that transmits on the actual anniversary (19 February), for the first time in the shows history, the EastEnders viewers will be able to cast their vote on Denise’s potential suiter. Denise’s decision. You choose. Should her future be with Jack, or Ravi?
To access the vote, viewers must have a ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Account. You can register for an account at , on or before 19 February 2025. The vote will officially open at 8.30pm on Wednesday 19 February at bbc.co.uk/eastenders, and will close at 7.10pm on Thursday 20 February so the result can be incorporated into its live episode which will broadcast at 7.30pm from ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Elstree Centre that evening.
Once all votes have been cast, the vote will be independently verified and handed to the EastEnders Executive Producer, Chris Clenshaw, just before the live show. In that short amount of time, the cast and crew will disregard the losing script, and quickly prepare to depict the drama on screen that reflects the decision chosen by the viewers.
As well as playing matchmaker for Denise, viewers will also have an extra treat when they cast their vote as they will be given the opportunity to make another decision which will go down in Walford’s history.
To accompany EastEnders unmissable week of drama, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ iPlayer will also be sharing additional show-related content across various outlets to mark the historic occasion. Highlights include EastEnders: 40 Years on The Square, an hour-long, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One documentary special fronted by Ross Kemp which will look at the show’s historic impact by tracking iconic moments and groundbreaking storylines throughout the years.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Three will also offer viewers an exclusive look at the explosive anniversary storylines with a 45-minute interview special - EastEnders Revealed: The Lock In – hosted by Joe Swash as he chats to some of the actors who find themselves at the heart of the anniversary drama that week.
