It has been one year since our freelance producer in Myanmar, Htet Htet Khine, was sentenced to six years of hard labour.
She is currently in Thayarwaddy Prison, a camp for political prisoners known for its difficult conditions.
Today our Chief Executive Officer, Simon Bishop, said:
鈥淛ournalism is not a crime. One year on from her sentencing, we remain very concerned for Htet Htet Khine鈥檚 safety and well-being in detention, and we call upon Myanmar authorities to release her and other journalists and media workers who have been detained unjustly.
鈥湷扇丝焓 Media Action works to support the people of Myanmar with information about health and social inclusion. It is critical that our staff are permitted to continue their work without interference.鈥
Htet Htet Khine was previously the presenter of the Khan Sar Kyi [Feel It] television programme produced by 成人快手 Media Action for audiences in Myanmar. Her charges were not believed related to her work with 成人快手 Media Action.
成人快手 Media Action is an independent nongovernmental organisation, separate from 成人快手 News. While we follow the 成人快手鈥檚 editorial standards, our operation is distinct from the 成人快手鈥檚 Burmese language news programmes.
