Their debut, Effloresce, set out the stall with nine minute epics, while the follow-up, Everyone Into Position, was equally humongous, even if lead singer Mike Vennart has described it as being a bit "happy-clappy".

Oceansize - Frames

Frames is definitely not worthy of such a description, but it does follow the usual Oceansize recipe - the shortest ditty weighs in at a rather large six and a half minutes. Yet, thankfully, there is still no sign of the tunes being overblown and engorged to make them so long.

Every punishing guitar assault, from the wall of sound that opens Unfamiliar to the explosion at the close of Savant, is necessary, and every shimmering lull, like the portentious and brooding breath-holder in the centre of An Old Friend Of The Christies, is worth it.

If Frames can be summed up in one word, it is obstreperous. It is a collection of do-as-you-please post-rock enormities that rightly thumbs its nose at the three minute punk-poppers and ordinary rockers.

It is carefree in the truest sense of the word and it will delight anyone who鈥檚 prepared to leave preconceptions on the sideline and listen to a band who make music for music鈥檚 sake.
