A group of young Bangladeshi businessmen have raised money from within their community to found the first privately-owned Bangladeshi airline. Royal Bengal Airline, named after the Royal Bengal tiger, will be based on Hanbury Street off Brick Lane. It will also have offices across Bangladesh The company has raised 拢5.5 million of investment from 24 business owners and stockbrokers from the local community, which has allowed them to buy two domestic airplanes. It aims to offer its first international flight to Dhaka by the end of 2007. "The first generation of British Bangladeshis desperately wanted to do something like this but they were never able to see it through," said Abdul Shukur Khalisadar, one of seven directors of Royal Bengal Airline. Bangladesh has recently opened up its airline industry to foreign investment, allowing the company to start its venture.
