But now local groups are fighting back and reclaiming the borough's image. Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) and Unite Against Fascism are among a number of groups hoping to make a change in the borough. Courtesy of Simon Green and LMHR Hundreds of local people showed their support at a concert organised by the Dagenham Branch of LMHR. It鈥檚 been hailed as one of their most successful events, with almost 200 people on the night signing up to get involved with the fight against racism. Drew Smith from the Dagenham branch of LMHR said "It's essential that we put all our efforts into building a really dynamic group. There's always been an undercurrent of racism in Barking and Dagenham [but] ...the election results shocked a lot of people. It's now given Barking and Dagenham a bad name across London [and] the country". Roll Deep explained why they got involved: "We're just doing our bit for the anti racism event. Our group's multi racial [so] it's definitely a thing we feel that we should back up. We love music and hate racism". The evening was also backed by Barking MP Margaret Hodge, as well as local councillors, businesses and newspapers. Musicians on the night included Dirty Pretty Things and Roll Deep.
